Definition

Responsible for the evolution, advocacy and governance of an entry in the DBS toolbox (tools/best practices/courses/virtual learning).

In detail

A DBS Process Owner is the person responsible for the evolution, advocacy, and governance of a specific item in the DBS toolbox (e.g., a tool, best practice, or course). They ensure the item remains current, effective, and promoted across the organization. This role manages an "item in the DBS toolbox" and is a different thing from the separate "Process Owner" term (who is accountable for the outcome of a cross-departmental business process) — the similar names should not be used interchangeably. Unlike project managers, Process Owners focus on long-term continuous improvement rather than one-off projects; compared to functional managers, they coordinate across departments. Outputs typically include process update records, training materials, and promotion plans.

Example in practice

A company appointed a lean manager as the process owner for the '5S' tool. He regularly collected feedback, updated the 5S implementation guide, organized training, and audited 5S execution at each plant to ensure the tool remained effective across the organization.
