JIT

Definition

The principle of the enrichment of production and supply of the required quantity of goods over the time needed.

In detail

Just-in-Time (JIT) is a core principle of lean production, emphasizing producing and supplying what is needed, in the quantity needed, at the time needed, to eliminate waste. It addresses overproduction and excess inventory, and is closely related to pull systems. Unlike batch production, JIT requires quick changeover and stable processes. The output is shorter lead times and lower inventory levels.

Example in practice

An assembly line implemented JIT, coordinating daily deliveries with suppliers and eliminating the raw material warehouse. Through kanban pull, the production line only picked up parts when needed. After implementation, work-in-process inventory decreased by 50% and delivery lead time shortened. JIT helped the factory reduce costs and improve responsiveness.
