Definition

The material number of the life cycle ends and ** is non-tradeable; the word " phase-out" cannot be used in combination with the trade permission of Obsolite.

In detail

Retired parts are part numbers at the end of their lifecycle that can no longer be traded, such as products that have been discontinued and are no longer sold. They address the problem of "dead inventory" in inventory and product management, clarifying that these part numbers cannot be used for sales or procurement, preventing misuse. The difference from obsolete parts is trading permission: retired parts are completely withdrawn from the market, while obsolete parts can still be traded. In the system, retired parts are typically removed from available inventory and transferred to the retirement process, forming a retirement list or disposal record.

Example in practice

An old model at an electronics factory was discontinued three years ago, and the remaining materials and finished goods can no longer be sold, so they are marked as Retired. The system removes them from sellable inventory, and they no longer participate in demand forecasting or replenishment; financially, they are treated as asset impairment. This avoids inflated inventory data and prevents Retired items from being mistakenly shipped to customers.
