Definition
Japanese: Sharing and copying of one improved or best practices in other regions is a key element of the model production cluster process.
In detail
Yokoten is sharing and replicating a Kaizen or best practice from one area to other areas, and it is a key step in the Model Cell process. It addresses the problem of improvement results being confined to a local area and unable to scale, amplifying gains through systematic replication. Unlike Standardization, Yokoten emphasizes proactive dissemination and adaptation. It typically outputs replication plans, training materials, and updated Standards.
Example in practice
After Line A reduced changeover time by 50% through a Kaizen Event, the company organized visits for leaders of other production lines to learn, and set up a cross-functional team to adapt the improvement methods to their own lines. Through Yokoten, changeover efficiency improved on all lines and overall delivery capability increased.
