Definition

The Annual Objectives that must be achieved this year within Policy Deployment to support the 3-5-year breakthrough objectives.

In detail

Annual Objectives are goals that must be achieved this year in Policy Deployment, supporting the achievement of 3-5 year breakthrough objectives. They are typically derived from breakthrough objectives, quantifying the first year's progress requirements. Unlike daily KPIs, annual objectives focus on breakthrough improvement rather than maintaining the status quo. In the X-matrix, annual objectives are located on the left, linked to improvement priorities and metrics. They typically output a quantified list of annual objectives to guide resource allocation and performance evaluation.

Example in practice

A company's 3-year Breakthrough Objective is to double market share, broken down over three years as 50/30/20: in the first year, 50% is completed, and the Annual Objective is set as a market share increase equivalent to half of the doubling target. Management uses the X-Matrix to break out key driving processes, such as New Product Development and channel expansion, and allocates corresponding resources. Progress is tracked monthly, achievement is evaluated at year-end, and this provides the basis for adjusting next year's objectives.
