Definition

MBS value stream manual's two PFEP templates (six field groups for self-made parts, six element categories for outsourced parts) and logistics "six determinations" checklist: container determination 3 steps, quantity determination 5 items, placement determination 12 functional areas, direction determination 10 flow principles, timing determination 5 indicators plus 9 common takt times, personnel determination 4 principles plus 4 development mechanism. Not a DBS standard.

In detail

Each field group in PFEP indicates what it is used to design: production information for layout, part information for equipment, packaging information for aisles and line-side, storage information for area, quantity information for equipment count, BOM for delivery and joint delivery. The six fixed items write material placement and delivery as 44 checkable items, where numbers such as receiving window 20–30 minutes, logistics module 10, and equipment size 1.2–1.6 meters are basic standard examples for that source.

Example in practice

During new line planning, build PFEP first; missing BOM and quantity data prevented calculation of equipment counts; after filling gaps, review item by item per the six determinations, and found that the line-side warehouse was not arranged for FIFO one-piece flow (directed item 7), and the arrival schedule only specified hours (timed item 1 requires minutes); listed as two improvement items.
