Definition
QFD matrix carrier, six rooms; TG-2, VAVE and IPP all use it.
In detail
The House of Quality is the matrix vehicle of QFD, containing six rooms, used to map customer requirements to product characteristics and evaluate their interrelationships. It solves the problem of "how to systematically translate the Voice of the Customer into design parameters" and is the bridge connecting VOC and engineering design. Simplified QFD follows exactly the six rooms of the House of Quality—what is simplified is the QFD method itself (only one layer, no multi-layer deployment), not the House of Quality matrix tool. The output is usually a House of Quality chart showing requirement weights, characteristic weights, and competitive assessment.
Example in practice
A home appliance company developed a new refrigerator, using the House of Quality to translate customer needs for energy efficiency and quietness into characteristics such as compressor power and insulation thickness, and evaluated competitive products to ultimately determine key design parameters.
