Definition
One-time cards for temporary additions in electronic view boards; the system prohibits the repetition of conventional cards and the temporary addition must be a peak card.
In detail
A Spike Card is a one-time card used in electronic Kanban for temporary quantity increases. The system prohibits repeated release of regular cards; temporary increases must use spike cards. It addresses the problem where regular replenishment cannot meet demand fluctuations, allowing extra replenishment via one-time cards while maintaining system discipline. Unlike regular Kanban cards, spike cards are one-time and become invalid after use. The output is a temporary replenishment instruction.
Example in practice
A product suddenly receives a large order, and inventory is insufficient. The planner issues a Spike Card in the E-Kanban System, allowing the supplier to make an emergency replenishment. The Spike Card automatically expires after use and does not affect the regular Kanban loop. The system records this exception, providing data for subsequent demand forecasting.
