Value flow mapping methods for service/information flow visualize waste of office and information processes.
In detail
Transactional Value Stream Mapping (VSMi) is a value stream mapping method for transactional/information flows, visualizing waste in office and information processes, and is the first step in improving transactional processes. In the system, it is used for diagnosis, linking with TPI improvement. Its difference from manufacturing VSM is that VSMi focuses on information flow and decision points, not material flow. It typically outputs current state maps, future state maps, improvement point lists, and implementation plans.
Example in practice
When the order processing cycle is too long, the company organizes a team to map the order process using VSMi, drawing every step from customer order to shipment, including waiting and approval times. Through analysis, multiple instances of duplicate entry and waiting are found. Based on the future state map, the team implements improvements, simplifies the process, and ultimately reduces order processing time and improves customer satisfaction.
