Definition
A learning check in which the learner independently repeats the task, explains decisions and handles exceptions, allowing a reviewer to assess performance against a standard.
In detail
Teach-back asks learners to recalculate, perform or explain using the supplied conditions, including anomaly decisions, response and handover. Attendance, self-reported understanding and a single quiz cannot replace it. Reviewers record hints, errors and repeat attempts before deciding on further training. Classroom teach-back is not job authorization; a coach who also owns the process should make role and review boundaries explicit.
Example in practice
After studying inspection, a team leader receives a form with inconsistent units. The learner identifies the conflict, names the approver and hands over the anomaly. The reviewer records whether additional hints were needed, rather than attendance alone.
