MBS Multi-Operator Changeover Scripts and Four-Step Improvement Order

← All terms

Also called: Changeover script · Changeover script · MBS SMED · Four strategies progressive · Setup operation analysis sheet

Definition

MBS quick changeover manual gives four executable items beyond DBS SMED: action optimization asks in order "internal to external → eliminate → simplify → automate"; scripts prepared per shift headcount; trial run is a video—analysis—improvement—re-video cycle; seven standardized documents each have an owner and storage location. Not a DBS standard.

In detail

"Script" is MBS's term for changeover standard work: a timeline stating who, at which second, does what, for how long. The order of the four strategies is itself a rule—if the first reaction is to buy automation equipment, it indicates skipping the eliminate and simplify steps; scripts are prepared for 1–4 people each, because reporting involves 3–4 people, while daily changeovers only have 1–2 people—a bad lesson recorded in the textbook. Of the seven documents, two must be posted on the daily management board; otherwise, changeover time is only monitored during the improvement week.

Example in practice

After injection molding machine changeover was reduced from 115 to 42.7 minutes, the day shift has two operators and the night shift has one; ABS reconciliation found no corresponding single-person standard work on the night shift changeover record, prompting the team leader to create a single-person standard work and post the daily changeover record sheet on the management board, rather than directly giving the day shift standard work to the night shift.
