Definition
External advisory body composed of Japanese manufacturing experts to assist in the implementation of the art manufacturing.
In detail
Shingijutsu is an external consulting organization composed of Japanese manufacturing experts that assists in implementing lean manufacturing; the Chinese edition of Volume 42 translates it as “真經塔,” but this glossary standardizes on “新技术” (Shingijutsu) to match the dbs-deployment card. It addresses the lack of internal lean experts and the difficulty of deepening improvements. Unlike internal improvement teams, external consultants bring an objective perspective and rich experience, challenging the status quo and teaching advanced methods. Typical outputs include improvement project recommendations, on-site guidance, training courses, and continuous improvement mechanisms.
Example in practice
A mid-sized machinery factory has implemented lean for years with limited results, so it hires Shingijutsu for one year of coaching. The consultants go to the gemba, diagnose waste in processes, and guide employees in kaizen week activities. They teach tools such as standard work and SMED, and develop internal improvement champions. After one year, the factory establishes its own improvement system and continues to improve even after the consultants withdraw.
