Definition

Structured marketing processes centred on understanding, quantifying and transmitting to clients the value generated by the product/service.

In detail

Value-based selling is a structured sales process centered on understanding, quantifying, and communicating the value created by a product/service to the customer. Within the system, it belongs to growth tools, addressing sales efficiency and effectiveness, helping sales teams shift from selling on price to selling on value. It differs from traditional selling in that value-based selling emphasizes quantifying the customer's economic benefits, whereas traditional selling focuses on product features and relationships. Typical outputs include value propositions, customer economic benefit analyses, sales funnels, and interview plans.

Example in practice

When customers request price reductions, Sales and Operations first verify the reliability of small-lot replenishment, then pilot a shorter replenishment cycle with the customer. The customer reduces average inventory funds and lowers stockout risk. Sales explains cash release, ongoing cost changes, and service value separately, without double-counting them, and does not promise immediate availability before delivery capability has been verified.
