STRAT

Strategic Plan

The management team's vision of how to win over clients, products, channels, quality, delivery and costs over the long term, answers the question "What game to play, how to win".

SPG

Strategy Partner Grow

Open Innovation DBS Tools: Successfully through a set of workshops and standard operating definition of target programmes, screening of partners, development of transactional elements and management of collaboration.

ABS

Stratification

An analysis method that breaks down data by business-meaningful dimensions such as shift, equipment, material, personnel, product, or time, to avoid overall averages masking local differences.

ABS

Subject

First layer of the operational entity: things that persist in reality and on which events occur — projects, plants, value streams, production lines, stations, equipment, parts, standard work, people, and external organizations, ten types in total. Not DBS training content.

SME

Subject Matter Expert

Staff members who are recognized as having expertise in a tool, process or concept within Danaher.

ABS

Successful Relationships

The section on how to establish and maintain an effective working relationship is taught in key dialogue courses.

ABS

Sunk Cost

Future decision-making should not be affected by the already incurred and irreversible expenditures.

ABS

Supermarket

Inventory of controlled parts used for production into upstream processes.

ABS

Supplier Partnership

The way in which both supply and demand operate in close cooperation, mutual recognition of benefits and responsibilities and joint realization.

ABS

Supplier Performance Factor

The decimal parameter 0-10, ICL uses to calculate the supplier's performance buffer: the higher the value, the higher the supplier's secure inventory of the cards; and the only way to translate the "this is not a good one" into the inventory.

SBM

Supply Base Management

Management bandwidth is allocated by relationship slot (tactile/integration/strategy), with a 3x3 scorecard (quality/delivery/costs) to be assigned to vendors and a frequency review by slot is decided.

SC&L

Supply Chain & Logistics Best Practices

The chain of determinations for the supply base management, the lean supply chain, material pull, inventory guidelines and the sections of the stock distribution plan, which is "to what extent the last paragraph is allowed to enter the next paragraph " , does not repeat the algorithm defining any paragraph.

DOE

Taguchi Methods & Design of Experiments (DOE)

The final rung of the tool upgrade ladder, addressing problems where multiple potential causes act simultaneously and interact; Taguchi's three core elements are parameter design, signal-to-noise ratio, and orthogonal arrays; on the DOE side, resolution describes the cost of reduced trial runs (confounding of interactions with main effects).

ABS

Takt Time

Rate of demand for products from clients: The time available for the shift is divided by the client ' s demand for the class, usually in seconds.

TR

Talent Review

A process, covering all employees with no entry threshold, that surveys the distribution of talent and the internal succession situation; the paired organization review assesses each function's execution capability against each strategic initiative.

ABS

Target Costing

Methods for establishing product cost targets at the design stage: sale price - target profit = target cost.

TTI

Target to Improve

Quantitative improvement targets set in strategic deployments to improve priorities.

ABS

Task (Flow Run)

A single run obtained by 'walking through' a process: how many steps, which step reached, and judgments left at each step; the task bar follows globally under the top bar.

TDP

Technology Development Process

A process for developing valuable new technology while reducing technology risk, protecting new product development from late-stage disruption; it uses TRL levels and TRA assessments, with visual management to drive progress.

ABS

Technology Roadmap

A visual tool to support "possession of the required technology at the right time" discusses and decides on how to break down the relationship between market demand, product attributes and technology on the timeline.

TSW

Tender Standard Work

DBS workshop tool for establishing a standard operating framework for business management of large long-cycle bids.

ABS

TG-2 Kaizen / Simplified QFD

A one-week Kaizen Event before Gate 2 to converge customer needs into a Product Concept: Simplified QFD walks through the six rooms of the House of Quality, scoring characteristics H/M/L = 9/3/1 and setting negative levels NH/NM/NL.

7QC

The Seven QC Tools

Seven chart tools that measure defects and explain them clearly (check sheet, Pareto chart, cause-and-effect diagram, histogram, scatter plot, control chart, stratification)—three collect data, two find causes, two check stability; stratification is not parallel to the others but is a prerequisite for the first six.

ABS

Three-Point Estimate

Estimate duration or cost using optimistic, most likely, and pessimistic values; the system has three sets of same-named measurement definitions (average, value selection by risk factor, PERT weighting). They measure different things and are not interchangeable.

ABS

Three-Second Rule

Looking at a viewed area, you can understand what's going on there in three seconds.

ABS

Time Fence

Three segments (needs/plans/rates) cut at the SIOP plan period to determine what to do at a given point in time.

ABS

Time Observation Sheet

The sheet used on the floor to record how long each of an operator's steps takes and the full work sequence; normally 7 to 10 observations are taken and the shortest observable time for each step becomes that step's standard.

TTF

Time to Fill

Time from vacancy to completion of filling of post.

TG

Toll Gate

The stage review gate in the project flow; the source defines it as "(somewhat) arbitrary points in the project life cycle at which the management team reviews the project"—the arbitrariness is the source's own wording. For Kaizen Events around Toll Gate 2, see also "TG-2 Kaizen / Simplified QFD". Not the same thing as [[gate-review]] (Gate Review): a Toll Gate is a gate in a product development flow (such as APD), while a Gate Review is a gate check in the playbook engine that can stop people.

TPM

Total Productive Maintenance

From first-line operators to top-level full-time participation in equipment improvement to maximize resources, quality and full life cycle costs to eliminate operational waste.

TPI

Transactional Process Improvement

Eliminate waste in non-manufacturing processes, establish pull/standard operations/mobility, and improve the quality, delivery and cost of transactional work.

ABS

Transactional Waterfalls

The "falls" created between catalogue prices and exchange prices by leakage of price margin for predatory pricing (freight, return, discounts, concessions, advertising subsidies, etc.) should be incorporated into pricing strategies or eliminated.

TM

Transformative Marketing

A set of processes and tools to enhance the contribution of marketing to income by building standard operating and organizational capacities.

ABS

TRIZ

An ideation method that starts from technical contradictions and works back from generic solutions collected by others to ask what else the product itself could become; it is the fourth of the five idea generation methods in the ideation course.

ABS

True North Metrics

The few metrics that provide long-term direction during a transformation (typically covering quality, delivery, cost or productivity, and people), used to judge whether improvements are accumulating in the right direction rather than as monthly appraisal scores. From published works, not a textbook measurement definition.

TAT

Turn Around Time

The overall turnaround time from receipt to completion of return.

UX

User Experience

The emotional responses and attitudes that the users have accumulated in full interaction with the products and services of the company.

VPAS

Valuable Problems in Attractive Segments

Understanding processes where clients see value issues in a market that you see value-along, focusing on issues in the client ' s ecosystem rather than on its own product defects.

ABS

Value Added

DBS refers to the process or operation of shaping/transforming the product or service into the final form that the client is willing to purchase.

VAVE

Value Analysis Value Engineering (VAVE)

Continuous critical review of existing and newly designed functions to achieve the necessary functions in the most economical manner, reducing material and labour costs and activating core growth on a yearly basis.

ABS

Value Map

Tools for insight into price/benefit trade-offs in markets, and for mapping price and aggregates of competitive products.

ABS

Value Proposition

A one-page value commitment for a target segment profile: it defines the problem being solved, product attributes, enabling technology, credible evidence, and target price.
