ABS

Value Selling

Structured marketing processes centred on understanding, quantifying and transmitting to clients the value generated by the product/service.

ABS

Value Stream Leader

The person responsible for the end-to-end results of a value stream from order receipt to delivery, with planning, procurement, production, quality, and other functions aligned to him; organizing by value stream rather than by function is the organizational prerequisite for deploying the management system. From a publicly published work, not textbook measurement definition.

VSM

Value Stream Mapping

A method that maps the material flow and information flow of a product or service from demand to delivery on the same chart, using the current state map to expose waste and the future state map to define the next improvement direction.

ABS

Value Stream Plan

The list that breaks the future state map into improvement activities with owners, dates and a way to verify them, sequenced by loop; it is the real deliverable of value stream mapping.

ABS

Value-Added Ratio

Value-added time as a share of the lead time; the numerator is the processing time that actually transforms the product and the denominator is the end-to-end delivery time, so the result is usually a few percent, or even a few parts in a thousand down to a few parts in ten thousand.

ABS

Verdict

A conclusion derived by a tool, complete with formula, source, measurement basis, and data window; once saved, it becomes a verifiable record that can be attached to an object and entered into a ledger.

ABS

Vertical Teams

Teams that are best suited to meet problems or challenges, regardless of level and position.

ABS

Visibility Scope

What objects an account can see. Roles control write access; scope controls whose objects are visible. Non-admins see only objects under projects they created or own by default; admins can assign several objects or "All"; drill down the organization tree. Not DBS textbook content.

ABS

Vision

Long-term direction planning based on a careful assessment of the most important directions of the organization.

ABS

Visual Management

A management method that displays standards, actual status, and abnormal conditions directly at the workplace, enabling anyone to quickly judge whether operations are normal without checking systems or waiting for reports.

VPM

Visual Project Management

A set of core project management best practices applicable to almost all project types, applying the DBS principles that include visualizing day-to-day management.

ABS

Vitality Index

New product sales in the last three years total product sales in the year; this window is full of bases in the three years and most companies want it to continue to increase.

VOP

Voice of Process

The "process voice" is used to reflect the actual capabilities and performance of the process.

VOC

Voice of the Customer

Processes to collect, analyse, interpret and respond to explicit and implicit client needs.

Retention

Voluntary Turnover / Retention

The number of active separations over the past three months has been annualized as a percentage of the number of persons on duty at the end of the month; the lower the CVD caliber, excluding direct labour and casual labour, is the better.

ABS

Walk the Talk

A leadership gemba action: walk the area of responsibility, take countermeasures on the spot, and follow up with feedback; the follow-up visit is what separates it from an ordinary inspection. One subsidiary plant's shared material gives a quantified cadence of at least twice a week with a one-week follow-up; the official course material (DM Instructor Guide REV3.3, DM Audit REV5) only calls for "walking frequently" and gives no specific numbers.

ABS

Want Brief

A clear and complete description of the product/technology/channel/capacity required in the SPG process is used in three tiers for internal alignment and partner communication.

ABS

Water Spider

The dedicated role that delivers material, collects empty bins and returns kanban cards to the cells on a fixed route at a fixed frequency; with this role in place operators never have to leave the cell to look for parts.

ABS

Winner Profile

A target profile in a selected market that describes the customer value, capabilities, cost structure, channels, and operational performance that a company must possess to win sustainably in the future, written as testable conditions.

WIP

Work in Process

The actual quantity of material and semi-finished goods released to production but not yet completed; it is the measured value on the floor, while standard WIP (SWIP) is the value set by takt and work sequence. The two are not interchangeable.

ABS

Work Sequence

The operator executes the process manual steps in a specific order.

WCT

Working Capital Turns

The turnover indicator for measuring the efficiency of operating capital use is one of the core value drivers of Danaher.

ABS

The worst performing sample in the comparative analysis (compared to the best BOB).

YTD

Year to Date

The figure accumulated from the start of the fiscal year to the current month; bowling charts and metric boards mostly judge on the year-to-date number, because monthly attainment and year-to-date attainment often point in opposite directions.

ABS

Yield

The share of good units in the output of one operation or one process; the denominator can be either the input quantity or the total output quantity, depending on how it is tallied. It is counted per operation, while the multiplied result across a whole process is called first pass yield (FPY), also known as rolled throughput yield (RTY).

ABS

Yokoten

Japanese: Sharing and copying of one improved or best practices in other regions is a key element of the model production cluster process.
